The power of man to destroy himself or redeem himself is strongest in a setting where the lights are low, the sound is cacophanous and the odors of stale beer, snubbed cigarettes and salt water prevail.

Irrespective of the darker side of these establishments, there is enormous potential for enjoyment to be found in bending the elbow with strangers, friends and soon-to-be friends.

In the spirit of everyone whose life has been changed in a tavern, bar, pub, lounge, disco or nightclub, what follows is the definitive listing of "evening establishments" in Kodiak.

Kodiak's own Beer

Those who love beer know that Kodiak is extremely fortunate to have a great resource like Kodiak Island Brewing Co. It's a local tradition to head down to the brewery any time there is an event to pick up a few growlers of tasty, fresh brew.

Only in Kodiak can the pleasures of Liquid Sunshine or North Pacific Ale be enjoyed, since the beer isn't exported off the island. It's a sure bet that many a suitcase passing through the Kodiak airport has one or two growlers stuffed among the dirty socks and sporting gear.
